Are there health and safety guidelines for tug of war?

This sports day inspired question got me thinking about the common misconception that there is a specific piece of health and safety law to cover every school activity.

Government guidance advises schools to take a ‘common sense’ approach to managing risks. However, with the threat of compensation claims from parents, it is perhaps no surprise that over the past year, our members have asked for advice and risk assessments on everything from plasticine to pogo sticks, scooters to shaving foam, and a mechanical bull.
