Are you looking for an editorial role in a fast-growing business where people are at the heart of everything we do? Would you like to work within a socially conscious organisation that is making a real impact in the education sector?

The role

We are looking for one sub-editor to join our friendly content team to edit digital content to the highest standards for education leaders who rely on our guidance and resources every day.

This is a highly valued and unusually varied subbing role, with opportunities to apply both rigour and creativity to content as wide-ranging as articles, practical resources, elearning and video-CPD.

Our sub-editors work closely with our in-house content creators to make sure everything we publish meets our users’ needs and is accurate, clear and actionable. As a team, we work hard to deliver content that helps over 160,000 education leaders take confident, decisive action in their schools.

You will:

  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to help our writers and content producers develop professionally and create content of the highest standard
  • Work at pace, making excellent editorial decisions and prioritising carefully

The ideal person

You will:

  • Have experience of sub-editing written content for online consumption, and a good understanding of what makes good online content
  • Be able to assess the quality of content in line with guidelines on brand, tone of voice and house style, and to identify issues and possible solutions
  • Be willing and keen to stretch your critical thinking skills as a sub-editor to content of different types and formats (e.g. videos and training content), and to apply more creative copywriting skills as needed
  • Be able to make confident, robust editorial and workflow/delivery decisions under pressure
  • Have an understanding of copyright law and be able to identify breaches
  • Have excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Have knowledge of, or a keen interest in, the education sector in England

It would be nice if you:

  • Have experience of reviewing/editing content beyond article copy, such as videos or training content
  • Have experience of coaching and supporting writers/content creators, or others, to develop their skills
  • Have an up-to date understanding of education issues, particularly in the school sector
