The role

We are looking for two sub-editors (1 permanent position and a 12-14 month fixed-term maternity cover) to join our friendly content team to sub-edit digital content, setting and upholding the highest standards of accuracy, practical value, clarity and fluency in line with our brand.  You’ll be helping over 160,000 education leaders take confident, decisive action in their schools.

You will: 

  • Edit digital content in line with our brand, tone of voice guidelines and style guide
  • Rigorously check content for accuracy and practical value
  • Work at pace, making excellent editorial decisions and prioritising carefully to make sure we publish content that meets our members’ needs when they need it
  • Work closely with our content writers, feeding back on their work and giving constructive challenge and support to help them develop their writing skills

The ideal person

You will: 

  • Have experience of sub-editing digital content
  • Be able to assess the quality of digital content and identify issues, gaps and appropriate actions
  • Be able to make confident, robust decisions under pressure
  • Have an understanding of copyright law and be able to identify breaches
  • Have excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Have knowledge of, or a keen interest in, the education sector in England

It would be nice if you:

  • Have an up-to-date understanding of education issues, particularly in the school sector

Member Support Officer

The role

We are looking for a Member Support Officer to join our Member Success team. You will act as an ambassador for the member, facilitate every interaction that members and non-members have with the service and champion the company’s mission – to give education leaders the knowledge to act.

You will also play a critical role in The Key’s transformation journey to allow members to self-serve and reduce the member wait time, by understanding our systems and identifying and acting upon improvement opportunities

The ideal person

You will have:

  • 1+ years experience within a customer service role
  • A genuine passion for making a difference to the lives of our members
  • Competency and confidence in using multiple systems at once 
  • The ability to learn quickly and prioritise
  • A collaborative approach to working

It would be nice if you have:

  • Experience of working in a membership organisation/association
  • Experience of working within a sales environment
  • Knowledge of the education sector
  • Experience of working with Salesforce CRM and/or Zendesk

Senior Software Developer

The role

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our Engineering team. You will be working with and managing part of a highly successful engineering team developing new features for market leading online applications that have an impact on thousands of schools and millions of children.

The role will allow you to work across a variety of codebases contributing to new features, refactoring existing code and also contributing to decisions around the future product roadmap. We use a variety of modern languages, frameworks and tools to deliver including Python Django, Wagtail CMS, Vue.js, NativeScript, Node.js and React. Our systems are hosted in Google Cloud Platform using scaling solutions such as Kubernetes; built on top of managed services such as MemoryStore (redis) and Cloud SQL (postgres).

As a manager you will support the growth and development of other engineers.

Our flagship product, The Key for School Leaders is accessed by over 100,000 schools leaders every month. Your role will allow you to work on vital features, ensuring our solutions are scalable and embrace best practices.

You will:

  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team of engineers
  • Develop new features and maintain existing codebases
  • Help steer the direction of future developments with industry best practice
  • Work with the wider engineering team to continually improve our processes and achieve valuable outcomes for members

The ideal person

First things first, here are the things you need to have:

  • Commercial experience with Python or Javascript (2+ years_
  • Commercial experience with HTML and CSS (2+ years)
  • Experience of automated testing

As a person, we are looking for someone who is passionate about software development, that will motivate and challenge their peers to succeed, and have:

  • Conscientiousness – you’re excellent at organising yourself and coordinating projects involving multiple people, both locally and remotely.
  • Great, real world, problem solving skills and the tenacity to keep driving for a solution, even when you feel like you have no idea what’s going on.
  • Attention to detail – you’re always coming up with edge cases and you appreciate the virtues of a well crafted automated test.
  • Perseverance, as, unfortunately we can’t promise that things will always go 100% swimmingly.
  • Oodles of curiosity – because life isn’t fun if you’re not continuously learning.

Finally, any of the following are highly desirable:

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in a STEM field, preferably with a solid Maths background
  • Experience of some of the following technologies:
    • Django 
    • Wagtail
    • Vue.JS
    • React
    • WebPack
    • NPM
    • Node.js
    • Docker
  • Experience with SQL databases 
  • Experience of browser troubleshooting and debugging techniques 
  • Experience of using source control tools (e.g. Git / SVN)
  • Experience managing a team of peers (1+ years)
  • Familiarity with the education sector

Member Experience Manager

The role

The Key is on a journey to embed customer success into our business. This new role will allow the ideal candidate to design and implement change that speaks to this, working with multiple stakeholders across the organization. Your primary focus will be on our mid-market (low-touch) accounts, looking at how we can deliver an exceptional post-sale experience that scales.

You will be accountable for the success of ~150 accounts, and hold overall retention responsibility for your team. You will bring experience and knowledge to the role that allows you to coach and manage our Member Experience Officers to achieve exceptional results both in their core role and their ambitions. 

The ideal person

    • Customer success or relationship management experience – you will bring proven experience and successful results to the role that allow you to credibly support and facilitate change within the team and across the business.
    • Leadership experience – CPD and continual development is a huge part of our company values. You will lead a team of 2 Member Experience Officers, imparting your knowledge and experience to support their success and development.
    • A genuine passion and motivation for providing outstanding experiences – we know that happy members buy more and stay with us. Our products give education leaders the knowledge to act in their role – your job will be to ensure we’re delivering empowerment to our members at all times.
    • Curiosity and proactiveness to drive improvement – you will have sound knowledge and understanding of systems, reporting and the concept of customer success, alongside autonomy. These elements together will drive you to always seek improvement opportunities and work collaboratively with your colleagues to achieve results. 
    • Excellent time management and prioritisation methods – this will be key to your success in the role as you will need to balance the leadership of your team and management of your accounts carefully.
    • Knowledge of or an interest in the education sector
