Should primary schools provide road safety training?

We were asked this question by the school business manager of a medium-size urban primary school in the west Midlands.

Now the clocks have gone back, I have been thinking  especially about how to keep pupils safe on their journeys to and from school. I've noticed a lot of concern about this among The Key's members.

The article we published in response to this question relays information from two government departments - Education and Transport. It also links to road safety resources, including a lesson pack and assembly plans. In response to related questions, I have also looked into when to allow pupils to walk home alone (or with siblings), and found examples of school policies on walking home alone.
