Leaders Like You: Building back, together

The innovation, resilience and dedication school leaders across the country continue to show as they take the winding road to recovery is truly remarkable – and it deserves to be showcased.

So, we’re putting the spotlight on some of the inspiring work and stories we’ve heard from leaders in our network over the last year. These stories, from three incredible leaders, highlight the challenges, successes and learnings from the pandemic, as well as their plans for hitting the ground running as the new school year approaches.

Sally Lanni, Executive Leader, Elston Hall Multi-Academy Trust

"I would say to other school leaders 'reach for the stars' - that's what we did during the pandemic and it paid off because we have come through it!"

Vicky Callaghan, Headteacher, Newland School for Girls

"We have a 'leadership lockdown recovery plan' - it's a reset, a step it up, a fast forward…and that's our six terms through the next academic year. It will take us time when we come back in term one, but nothing great comes easy."

Youlande Harrowell, Assistant Headteacher & Director of Sixth Form, The Urswick School

"The last 12 months as a leader, has certainly shown we've got alot more bounce-back ability than I think anyone ever thought we did!"

Of course, we know these are just a few of the stories the sector has to tell – there are many more to be shared and celebrated, so over the summer term, connect with us on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, and share your experiences to help and inspire others. Let’s build back together.

Keep an eye out for more stories from Leaders Like You in the coming weeks.

The pace of change in education means there is no shortage of theory, opinion and advice on what leaders need to do and what they need to know. Leaders themselves have never been under more pressure to be effective or had less time to plan, prioritise and learn.

In a world like this, ambitious and aspiring educational leaders are in constant need of reliable, relevant and authoritative knowledge that’s ready to use.
